A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment after discarding converted firearms during a dangerous police pursuit through Sheffield city center, Sheffield Crown Court heard this week.

Earl Treasure of Newton Place, Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham, received the custodial sentence following his guilty plea to multiple firearms and dangerous driving charges stemming from an incident on Manchester Road in June 2024.

During the pursuit, Treasure ejected two viable firearms from his vehicle while driving at dangerous speeds through residential areas. The chase culminated when his vehicle came to rest on Pearoyd Lane, where South Yorkshire Police officers immediately secured the scene.

The weapons had been illegally modified from blank-firing devices into viable firearms capable of discharging live ammunition. DNA analysis conclusively linked Treasure to both weapons, establishing his direct handling of the illegal firearms.

Treasure entered guilty pleas to two counts of possessing prohibited firearms, two counts of possessing ammunition without valid certification, and one count of dangerous driving. In addition to the seven-year prison term, Sheffield Crown Court imposed an 11-year and six-month driving disqualification.
